Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 16, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Fisher River Watch, operated by iConnect Studio ("we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, and protects information from users of fisherriverwatch.ca.

1. Information We Collect

When you subscribe to email updates, we collect:

We do not collect any other personal information. We do not use cookies for tracking or analytics. We do not share your information with advertisers — we do not run advertising.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your email address is used exclusively to send you flood-status notifications when the Fisher River crosses defined thresholds at the Fisherton gauge. We send one notification per threshold crossing — not repeated messages for the same condition.

We do not use your information for marketing, advertising, or any purpose other than flood-status updates.

3. Message Frequency

Message frequency varies based on river conditions. During active spring melt, you may receive several messages as the river crosses different thresholds. During quiet periods, you may receive no messages for weeks or months.

4. SMS / Text Message Alerts

SMS alerts are not available at launch. We may add SMS alerts as a future enhancement. If we do, subscribing to SMS will be a separate, explicit opt-in — your email subscription does not constitute consent to receive text messages.

5. Sharing of Information

We do not sell, share, or transfer your personal information to third parties, except as necessary to deliver messages:

This service receives only the contact information necessary to deliver your email.

6. Data Storage

Subscriber information is stored securely via Netlify Blobs infrastructure. We retain your information until you unsubscribe.

7. Unsubscribing

You may unsubscribe at any time by:

Upon unsubscribing, your contact information will be removed from our system.

8. Data Sources

Water level and flow data displayed on this dashboard is sourced from Water Survey of Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada. This data is provisional and publicly available. We do not collect or store this government data — it is fetched in real time directly from public APIs. Weather data is sourced from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) using coordinates for the Peguis First Nation area.

9. Children's Privacy

This service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

10. Indigenous Community Context

Fisher River Watch serves communities including Peguis First Nation and Fisher River Cree Nation. We are committed to treating community members' information with respect and confidentiality. Subscriber data is never shared with any party outside the delivery infrastructure described above, including First Nations leadership, government agencies, or media, except where required by law.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
