Terms of Service
1. About This Service
Fisher River Watch (fisherriverwatch.ca) is operated by iConnect Studio as an independent, non-commercial community tool. It provides real-time water flow and level monitoring for the Fisher River basin in Manitoba's Interlake region, using publicly available data from Water Survey of Canada. Service area includes Peguis First Nation, Fisher River Cree Nation, and the Rural Municipality of Fisher.
2. Not an Official Service, Not an Emergency Alert
This service is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any government agency or First Nations government. It is not part of the emergency alert infrastructure. Water flow and level data is sourced from Water Survey of Canada and is provisional — subject to revision. Do not rely solely on this service for emergency decision-making. Always follow official guidance from Manitoba Emergency Management Organization, the Manitoba Hydrologic Forecast Centre, and community leadership.
3. Email Update Service
By providing your email address and subscribing, you agree to receive flood-status email notifications and service-related emails from Fisher River Watch. These are not emergency alerts. Notifications fire when the river crosses defined thresholds at the Fisherton gauge, and may be delayed or missed if our systems, email infrastructure, or data sources are unavailable.
You may unsubscribe at any time by replying "unsubscribe" to any update email.
4. SMS / Text Messages
SMS (text message) alerts are not available at launch. If we add SMS alerts in the future, subscription will be a separate, explicit opt-in. Your email subscription does not authorize text messages.
5. Data Accuracy
Water flow and level data is sourced from Water Survey of Canada real-time gauges and is clearly marked as provisional. While we make every effort to display accurate information, we make no warranty regarding the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of data displayed. Sensor outages, transmission delays, ice effects, and data corrections may affect readings. Historical reference peaks (2014, 2017, 2022) are derived from WSC archived daily data at gauge 05SD005 (Fisherton), approximately 15 km upstream of Peguis First Nation — readings at that gauge may differ from water depths experienced within the community.
6. Limitation of Liability
iConnect Studio provides this service free of charge as a community resource. To the fullest extent permitted by law, iConnect Studio shall not be liable for any damages arising from use of or reliance on this service, including property damage, personal injury, or economic loss resulting from flood events or decisions made based on information from this dashboard. This limitation applies during emergency conditions — when human lives and property are at risk, always follow the direction of emergency authorities.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse this service, including but not limited to automated scraping, interfering with service operation, or using subscriber data for any purpose other than personal flood awareness.
8. Service Availability
We make reasonable efforts to keep this service available, including during flood events, but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, upstream data outages (Water Survey of Canada), or circumstances beyond our control. During critical emergency moments, redundant information sources (provincial bulletins, community coordinators, emergency broadcasts) are essential.
9. Indigenous Community Respect
This tool serves communities including Peguis First Nation and Fisher River Cree Nation. We are committed to operating with respect for community leadership, sovereignty, and self-determination. If community leadership requests changes to how their community is represented on this site — or requests that the tool cease operation — iConnect Studio will comply promptly and without contest. Contact lisa@iconnect.studio.
10. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms periodically. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of updated terms. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Manitoba and the laws of Canada applicable therein.
